I just sent a copy of dark heroes off to the editor.
Of course, I still need to reread through the rest of the manuscript. So far, I have been halfway through it repeatedly, an now just need to tweak the ending a bit. (you can never be too good).
Of course, it doesn't help that I am watching the avatar the last airbender. Yes it is a kids show, but it is awesome. There's four nations, of earth, wind, fire, water, and a war, and a few kids who have the avatar with them. this is great character development. Katara started as a scared young girl who has grown up, and after being chased by prince suzko for so long, he is no longer an enemy but a friend, who has also grown from an arrogant prince to a young man who will fight his father for what is right. It is a must see. But I recommend starting from the beginning or it might not make sense. The princess azula is a larger than life character.
It is a wonderful show, well worth watching.
So what does this have to do with a blog on writing?
Because it is very inventive, filled with great characters. Even the side characters like uncle and teachers and kings are not copies of each other, but different and individual.
The idea of four elements is not new, nor is the concept of controlling them. but the shows has interesting ideas about them.
It is based on martial arts, also, so you know it will be good.
The show is a great study in coming of age, mild romance, and portrayal of characters.
Yet, it is a kid's show. Great writing can be seen anywhere, and can be used to teach us something.
